Sandra discovered yoga accidentally 22 years ago in July, 2000. As she was driving on the dark and windy roads of Garrison, NY, with a newborn baby at home, she stumbled upon a candlelit sign, “YOGA”, with an arrow pointing right. That first unplanned class was the unexpected start of a beautiful, intriguing and wonderfully addicting relationship.
After practicing diligently for years in the Hudson Valley, she received her 200 yoga teacher training in 2006 (Yogascape, Carmel, NY), just prior to moving to Europe. Soon after arriving in Latvia, she opened her studio in Riga and had a healthy business there for a decade, teaching to kids, teens, adults and families, planning and leading workshops and retreats, catering primarily to expats and international communities. It was not uncommon to have ten nationalities in a class of ten. For her, the spiritual connection which yoga instills transcends cultures and even languages.
Back in the U.S. since 2016, Sandra’s consistent approach to yoga is filled with joy, focus, discipline, warmth and curiosity. She respects everyone’s varying abilities and welcomes them open heartedly and always without judgment. She recognizes that each day our emotional state may fluctuate, as may sensations in our bodies. Sandra encourages you to listen, learn and accept what you feel in your physical body and respect that which is present in your mental state.
It brings Sandra joy to watch people attain new levels of mobility and flexibility, practice without judgement and become dedicated to their practice. As a marathon runner, active hiker and swimmer, she will love to challenge you, but will always respect your limitations. She will be inspired by you, just as she strives to be a source of light and inspiration to others.
When Sandra is not teaching yoga, she is an Adjunct Professor of Public Presentation and an Academic Advisor at Marist College.
